BEHALA – Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhausgesellschaft mbH celebrated its 100th anniversary on last Sunday, 3th September 2023. BEHALA is the operator of the trimodal freight hub in Berlin – with the Westhafen port playing a crucial role in the economy, logistics and goods supply in the capital of Germany. Thousands of goods arrive and are processed here every day – largely from Hamburg and Bremerhaven. Over 15000 guests were present and had the opportunity to get an insight into the daily operational and logistics challenges of BEHALA. The BEHALA team demonstrated how heavy containers are handled with various equipment, showcased an old steam locomotive and a crane gondola.

Future shipping was also one of the highlights of this event – the A-SWARM autonomous shipping project, which has been developed in cooperation with BEHALA, the University of Rostock, Technical University of Berlin, SVA Potsdam (Potsdam Model Basin) and Infineon was proudly introduced to the crowd. The A-SWARM project aims to transport cargo via water instead of putting them all on the road – reducing road congestion, improving efficiency and enabling a sustainable future in the shipping industry.
